Volunteer Apply

We have a small band of enthusiastic volunteers who mainly steward the museum. They bring a range of skills and expertise — from those who have lived all their lives in Weardale and have extensive local knowledge, to newcomers eager to get involved in the wider community. Many are interested in social history, as displayed through photographs, old postcards, or artefacts reflecting life in the Dale in the past. Others are fascinated by the mining history, enjoying pieces such as the lead pig and the Heart of Weardale fluorspar exhibit.

Volunteer stewards generally enjoy meeting people and being part of a team, while feeling that their efforts benefit the whole Weardale community.

As our activities expand, we welcome volunteers with expertise, experience, or an interest in retail and events planning. We are also looking to grow our social media presence, so an interest in TikTok or Instagram would be greatly appreciated.
